Rockford officials approved permits for a Chick-fil-A restaurant this past winter, but the project isn't scheduled to happen until early 2014.

That's the update from company spokeswoman Brenda Morrow.

Records from the Winnebago County supervisor of assessments show that the company bought vacant property at 7130 E. State St. for $650,000 from Lowe's Home Centers Inc. The restaurant will open by the Lowe's near East State Street and Perryville Road.

The nearest Chick-fil-A restaurants are located in Batavia and Crystal Lake.
