What's happening? Johnny Depp, Ed Sheeran and One Direction's Zayn Malik ...

Strange things are afoot music fans, strange things indeed but don't worry it's great strange not awful weird!

There could well be a new musical supergroup about to hit the charts as earlier this week One Direction's Zayn Malik was spotted in a recording studio in LA with none other than Hollywood A lister Johnny Depp.

To make things even more intriguing, they were joined by Zayn's good pal and super songwriter Mr Ed Sheeran, who was spotted arriving to the venue and looking pretty excited.

Zayn wasn't seen entering or leaving the facility, but a picture showed up on Instagram this afternoon which very clearly shows the Bradford bad boy getting all huggy with the Pirates Of The Caribbean actor

It's all very hush hush, but Johnny working with music stars is not unheard of and in fact, while he's best known for his roles in films such as Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he is also quite the musician himself. Back in the 90s he was in a band named 'P', who released one record before they split.

The reclusive celebrity is an accomplished guitarist and has previously shared a stage with legends such as Aerosmith, Eric Clapton and Alice Cooper, played slide guitar on the Oasis song "Fade In-Out" and Depp traded licks with Joe Perry on "The Brooklyn Shuffle," a song from Steve Hunter and "The Manhattan Blues Project."

It's not yet known if he actually made any music with Ed and Zayn but Twitter is in an uproar in case he did and Ed didn't help by tweeting earlier in the week about a project with a mystery star.

The ginger singer posted:

'Finished the @RudimentalUk session for today, back in tomorrow. Now off to make music with one of my favourite artists...'

Zayn is seen in the shot above with Depp and Las Vegas musician Alexander DeLeon, from band The Cab.

Posting the image on Instagram DeLeon said: 'Pirate lessons from the one and only. Thanks for having us, Mr. Depp.'

Johnny has already met and spent time with the 1D boys and he recently admitted that he invited them to his home last year to meet his daughter, who is a huge fan.

He told US chat show host Jimmy Kimmel:

'My daughter, she's a great fan of One Direction, and she asked if she could go to see them on the Ellen show. So I hooked it up.'

Kimmel asked:

'So then One Direction went with your daughter back to your house?'

Depp laughed: 'You seem somewhat jealous. You seem freaked out.'

How amazing would it be if he appeared on the next One Direction album? Leave your comments below...
