Dalton State's young golf squad produced its best showing of the fall season as it finished fourth in the 25 team Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Invitational, sponsored by Berry College. The tournament was held at two venues, Coosa County Country Club and Stonebridge Golf Club.
The Roadrunners finished ahead of many established programs such as Reinhardt, Birmingham Southern, Sewanee, Berry, and Shorter. Former D-III National Champion, Oglethorpe University won the tournament at even par.
"We are still in our first year and growing as a young team, so I cannot be disappointed at how high we finished in a very large field," said Coach Ben Rickett after the tournament. "Slowly but surely, we are getting to where we need to be as an elite team."
The Roadrunners finished the tournament 16 over par with a total score of 592 over the two-day event. Individually, Levi Nix (So. Lafayette, GA) was +3 (74-73) and finished 13 th overall. Tyler Mitchell (Sr. Chatsworth, GA) was +4 (73-75) finishing in 18 th place and Chase Jones (So. Chatsworth, GA) was +5 (71-78) and finished in 25 th place. Jones was tied for 8 th after day one of the tournament.
With only one upperclassman and less than two months together as a team, the future looks bright for Dalton State Golf. The next stop for the team is the Skyhawk Invitational at UT Martin on Oct. 7.
