A new Chick-fil-A restaurant is planned at the Shoppers World of Brookfield on land where the center's owner recently removed a Milwaukee County bus stop.
The 158-seat restaurant is proposed south of West Capitol Drive on a parking lot space in the large Shoppers World center. The center's manager, Ohio-based Developers Diversified Realty, or DDR, is seeking approval for the Chick-fil-A after successfully making Milwaukee County move a bus stop last month from the border of the restaurant site.
The Chick-fil-A's dumpster enclosure would be roughly in the same spot where the bus stop formerly stood, according to plans Brookfield officials are reviewing. Milwaukee County relocated the bus stop, at DDR's request.
The stop is on the northern edge of the RedLine Capitol Drive MetroEXpress route, which connects to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's main campus. The new bus stop location is at the doorstep of a Pick 'n Save store that is in the Shoppers World. Roundy's Inc., Milwaukee, owns the Pick 'n Save land and offered to host the bus stop.
"The new layover location is considered an improvement," said Jacqueline Janz, spokeswoman for the Milwaukee County Transit System.
Developers Diversified also removed county bus stops from two other shopping centers, including the Marketplace of Brown Deer on North Green Bay Road. The Marketplace bus stop also is on an outlot where additional retail buildings could be built. Nate Piotrowski, Brown Deer community development director, said DDR officials indicated the bus stop relocation was to open the possibility for future development.
Brookfield's Plan Commission is to review the Chick-fil-A proposal Monday night.
